Alright, it’s Ryan back again, and this time I’m diving into the infamous Benidorm. If you’ve heard the stories, you’ve probably got an idea of what this place is about. But is it any good? Well, yeah, it’s everything you’ve heard…and more.
New Town: The Benidorm You Know
The New Town and British Square are exactly what you imagine when you think of Benidorm. It’s loud, lively, and a bit in-your-face—but in a good way. The nightclubs here are on another level, with live shows running all night long. From comedians and tribute acts to… well, let’s just say some shows aren’t for everyone (I’ll pass on the strip and sex shows, thanks).
A night on the Benidorm strip is an experience you won’t forget, whether you want to or not. Highlights include:
-
Café Benidorm: Perfect if you fancy a boogie to some 70s and 80s classics.
-
Western Saloon: Live music, great atmosphere, and just a good time all around.
And during the day? The New Town is just as alive. The beachfront buzzes with energy, and places like Tiki Beach and Andy’s Simply The Best Bar are always heaving. If karaoke’s your thing, head to The Black Chicken—it’s a bit of a Benidorm institution.
Old Town: A More Traditional Vibe
In contrast, the Old Town is more my speed these days. It’s got a more authentic, laid-back feel, and the food here is spot on.
-
Tapas Alley: This is a must for foodies. You’ve got rows of little tapas bars serving up all sorts of Spanish delights. Grab a few plates and a glass of wine, and you’re sorted.
-
Oliver’s Bar: A proper pub with great atmosphere and even better pints.
-
Gin Street: If cocktails are your thing, this is the place to be. Loads of great spots to sip a drink and relax.
The smaller bars in the Old Town are a lot friendlier than those on the strip, and it’s nice to take a break from the non-stop party vibe.
The In-Between Bars
Not quite New Town, not quite Old Town—the middle ground has some absolute gems. A special mention goes to The Soul Bar, which is absolutely brilliant. Great music, friendly people, and a cracking atmosphere make it a top spot for a drink.
Watch Out for Scams
Now, I’ve got to give you a heads-up about the downsides. Scams like the “pea men” (you’ll know it when you see it) and pickpockets are common here. So, keep your wits about you, don’t walk alone at night, and you’ll be fine. Just a bit of street smarts goes a long way.
Why I’ll Be Back
Despite the scams and a bit of chaos, I’ve got a soft spot for Benidorm. The year-round entertainment and cheap prices make it an easy choice for a weekend getaway. Where else can you get tapas and a bottle of wine for 9 euros, like at Zodiac?
It’s a place that never sleeps, and whether you’re after non-stop nightlife or a more traditional vibe, Benidorm has something for everyone. I’m already planning my next trip for next month—so here’s to more moaning (and loving) in Benidorm.
